After three weeks of cancelled trial matches, football was finally played by all grades on Saturday under brilliant sunshine. No official scores were taken.
The Geoff Payne mentored Under 18's took the trek to Kelso Park in their first match of the year where they played traditional powerhouse club, North Shore Bombers. Despite being behind on the scoreboard, the team showed good signs as they prepare themselves for their round 1 clash against Campbelltown at Greygums Oval on April 14.
Over at Greygums, a big combined Div 4/5 team kept coaches Bottrill and White busy rotating players in their match against 2011 Div 5 premiers, Southern Power, who on the strength of their grand final victory, are now competing in the Div 4 competition this year. Penrith dominated early and went on with the job to record a sound win with many new players performing well and indications are strong that next week's opening round (Div 4 V Nor-West Jets for the "Riff-Raff Cup" and Div 5 against Camden, who have strengthened in the off-season) will see a good start for the long season ahead.

First Grade travelled to Picken Oval at Croyden Park where the understrength squad played Premier Division team, Western Suburbs Magpies. Although missing many key players, the Rams showed good commitment around the ground and gave the Magpies a run for their money. Coach Phil McGuinness is sure to up the intensity at training and ask for a greater commitment over the next few weeks in their leadup to the opening round against the well credentialled Macquarie University at Greygums on April 14.
All in all a successful hitout by all sides. The time for the real thing is fast approaching and players are reminded that places in the team depend on commitment to training.
