Round 13 sees the Rams back at home in First Grade and Under 18's. The 18's kick off the day at midday when they attempt to avenge their round 1 loss to Pennant Hills whilst Firsts take on Camden Cats in the 2:10 PM fixture.
Reserve Grade are reminded that a training run at Greygums Oval will commence at 10:00 AM and attendance is important.
Match Preview
With the Reserve Grade side having their second and final bye of the year, their second spot on the ladder is secure. A chance to grab the top spot is out of their control but should Nor-West be able to topple the comp leader, Macquarie University, it would see the seconds jump to the the lead. Players are reminded that a 10:00 AM training run at Greygums has been organised and all available players are asked to attend. It would be appreciated if these players could stay back to assist and support the other two matches.
The 18's start the day at midday against Pennant Hills Demons. They met in the opening round of the season at University Oval where a nervous start saw them well behind in that match. However, they came back strongly in the second half to go down by 33 points. With the Demons sitting on fourth spot, they led in last week's match against East Coast before succumbing to that team by 44 points. That ended a six match winning streak for the side and they will be keen to get back into the winners list. Penrith's form has been inconsistent in recent weeks. Following a heartbreaking 11 point loss to last year's premiers, Sydney Uni, the road trip to Wollongong saw them on the wrong side of the umpires and scoreboard in their loss to Illawarra Lions. However, their Greygums form reads well with the scalps of finals side, Riverview earlier in the season to their credit. Penrith will be looking for a solid start and four quarters of committed football to enable them to upset Pennant Hills.
First Grade take on Camden Cats in the main event at 2:10 PM. The Rams are looking for their third win on the trot and retention of the ladder lead. Last week saw the side topple comp leaders Balmain by 60 points at home to leapfrog the Dockers into first place. The previous week they accounted for last year's nemesis, Moorebank Sports by 39 points. That followed their big loss to Holroyd-Parramatta at Henson Park. Penrith are without the services of full-forward Blake Roberts, Gordon Howell and Adam West from last week's side but have capable replacements in Alex Henry, hardman Sam Lockhart and the evergreen Christian Triffitt.
Camden are currently on the bottom of the Div 2 ladder but cannot be under-estimated. The Chris Hughes coached squad have had a tumultuous season with just win and losses at their last four matches. However, they caused the upset of the season when they toppled Balmain at Harrington Park in Round 8 back in May and will be after a repeat of that performance. It has been many years since both these first grade squads faced each other but the Rams should be confident of taking the cake and remaining at the top of the Div 2 ladder.
Penrith would like to again thank our wonderful sponsors. IGA, Red Cow Inn, IceBreak, MD Brick and Goulburn Valley have all invested heavily in the success of the Rams and the added resources have seen a great resurgence of the club in the last couple of years.
For a great day of quality football, get down to the Greygums Graveyard and support your local heroes.
