Round 12 sees the Under 18's get off to an early start when they take the road trip to Wollongong to take on the Lions in an important match.
Both Senior teams are back at Greygums wher they boast of an unbeaten record this year. The Reserves kick off the day at midday when they face third placed UTS Bats for the first time this year whilst the 2:10 PM match sees first grade looking to topple ladder leaders, Blamain, and take their spot at the top of the table.
Match Previews
The 18's head off at dawn on the long trek to North Dalton Park at Wollongong looking to avenge their defeat to Illawarra Lions earlier in the season. The Lions are sitting just one win adrift of the Rams in 8th spot, but have a good record at home and are always hard to beat on their home turf. Last week they went down to North Shore at home by 48 points and prior to that, fought out a tough draw with Riverview.
Penrith put up one of their best performances of the season last week at Cook Park when they went down by just 11 points to 2009/2010 Premiers, Sydney Uni and are looking to keep the commitment that got them so close in that match. A win would keep their finals aspirations alive. The loss of "tall" Matt Purse is a blow to the side which sees a couple of "RamsLegends" sons take the field in Nathan Walker and Under 16's player, Chris Nolan. Senior players Jack Ponton, Liam Murphy, Jackson Swarbrick, Brayden Wilson and Rick Ooms will need to lead from the front and provide Ben McGovern with opportunities whilst the young guns of George Paneras, Ben Mayer, James Devlin and Greg Major are looking to continue their success in 18's football in this important match.
Reserve Grade kick off the day at Greygums Oval against third placed UTS Bats. The big ground should suit this strong squad as they play the Bats for the first time this season. UTS have had a "stop-go" season this year playing just 7 games (The Rams have played 10). After a thrashing in round 1, the Bats won their next four, before going down by just a point two weeks ago against ladder leaders, Mac Uni. Last week they suffered a shock loss to Nor-West Jets and will be looking to avenge that defeat as they travel to Penrith. The Rams are heading towards their most successful season in history and now have a 9-1 winning record, winning their last six. Last weeks win against Moorebank was emphatic and another strong squad will take the field. Jason Bradley returns this week after his many media commitments whilst Nic Collimore wile put some fire in the side after some impressive first grade performances.
The final match of the day sees an exceptional match with Penrith looking to grab the Div 2 ladder lead from a strong Balmain outfit. The teams last met in Round 5 on May 8 at drummoyne, where the Rams led for most of the match until the Dockers came home with a wet sail to record an 18 point win. Balmain are on a three win streak after easily beating the classy Sydney Uni outfit last week at drummoyne. The previous week they recorded a one point win in the dying minutes against Nor-West after looking spent at the half time break. The Rams looked impressive at Rosedale last week in beating Moorebank which followed their big loss to Holroyd-Parramatta the week before. The return of Dale Chivas and Tim Cummins is an enormous boost to the side which sees Gordon Howell and matt Lewis also promoted to the top grade. The Rams will need to be at the top of their game for the entire 88 minutes to be a chance agaist one of Sydney's best teams.
Get down to Greygums this Saturday for what promises to be a great day of senior football.
