Match Preview
Finally football returns to Greygums Oval after a massive works programme by Penrith Council who have worked tremendously hard after some serious issues derailed plans for an earlier start. The rams will benefit in the future for the work performed.
The Under 18's are looking to a better performance this week against Riverview. After winning their first match in Premier Cup against Uni NSW a month ago in an exciting match, they were outclassed by Sydney Uni last week and face the might of the undefeated Riverview side. Senior players and Rams supporters are urged to get to the ground to support the future of the Penrith region who will wear the teal with pride and commitment.
The reserve grade game at midday sees the team looking to get back into the winners list after suffering their first defeat of the season at the hands of Mac Uni last week. Winners of their only three previous matches, Penrith are eager to avenge last week's loss, when a third quarter collapse was the cause of their 22 point loss. The Goannas go into the game sitting in fourth spot (Penrith are second). An opening loss to Mac Uni by 32 points was followed up with a narrow win over Nor-West. They followed this up with a narrow 2 point loss to Moorebank before a convincing win over Manly last week and a tough match is expected with both teams fighting to keep their spots in the top four.
First Grade take to the field at 2:10 PM and what a great match it is expected to be. With the Goanna's sitting in fourth spot (Penrith 5th) after their big win last start against Manly, they will be pumped for the local derby. Their last win took them to three straight wins after accounting for Auburn and Moorebank in the previous games. Their first round loss to Balmain by just 8 points (with 21 scoring shots to 14) shows that they will be a force in the Div 2 competition this season. The Rams have suffered defeat by the two top teams this season, both in which a poor quarter cost them the games and will need to concentrate for the full 88 minutes on Saturday to stay in finals contention.
A full canteen will be in operation and volunteers will be called on to assist with game day duties and assistance. Please put your hand up to make the day a success.
