In a "ground breaking" achievement for the Penrith Rams, Sydney AFL has rewarded the club with promotion to Division Two (up from Div 3) and Under 18's Premier Cup (up from Challange Cup) for 2011. The last twelve months has seen an outstanding turnaround within the Rams and the announcement at the annual planning meeting on Wednesday Nov 25 justifies the great work and support of the players, staff, supporters, junior pathway clubs and sponsors in 2010. With the start of the new season just four months away the wheels are solidly in motion for another successful year.
The announcement underpins the Rams strategic direction where the objectives to retain all aspiring footballers in the local catchment area will define a clear pathway to play at the higest level in Sydney football within the Under 18's Premier Division which is outstanding news for our four feeder clubs, Blue Mountains Kangaroos, Penrith Swans, St Clair Crows and Emu Plains/Glenmore Park Lions. With the relegation of Campbelltown to Challenge Cup, Penrith now become the Premier pathway club for Western Sydney.
The 2011 competition begins on April 2, 2011. The Rams are represented in Div 2 in the ten team competition with five finals spots available in the 18 round competition. They will be up against Moorebank (Div 3 premiers 2010) Auburn (Div 4 premiers), Camden, Manly, St George, Balmain, Holroyd and Sydney Uni.
An application for Reserves promotion to Div 3 was unsuccesful and they will again compete in the Div 4 comp in the ten team structure with a five team finals series.
But the big news was the Under 18's taking Campbelltown's spot in the Premier Cup. After a record-breaking 2010 season, the team will play the 18 round comp (five teams final) commencing on April 2. Opponents are East Coast, Pennant Hills, St George, Sydney Uni, Western Suburbs, North Shore, St Ignatius, Uni NSW/ES and Wollongong.
The draw will be released prior to Christmas.
Pre-season training continues every Tuesday and Thursday evening at 6 PM at Regatta Park, Emu Plains (River Rd, just off the Great Western Highway) and players are urged to attend. The training sessions will conclude on Dec 16 and official training will re-commence in late January.
Again, congratulations to all at the Rams for their support.
