PENRITH Swans AFL player Aaron McGee has entered the club’s record books, playing 150 games for the junior team.
McGee, this week’s Junior Sports Star nominee, first picked up an AFL ball at three and has never looked back.
“I entered the Auskick program, where we basically came out on Saturday mornings and learned the basics like kicking and hand passing, and we then played a game at the end of the session,” he said. “Every day I grab a footy and practise my skills, so I have a huge passion for it.”
A simple start to his career led to the teen’s relative success.
McGee, 15, says he is pleased to have the record as well as to become a life member of the Penrith Swans.
The Cranebrook resident has not assured himself a club for next season but knows where he would like to be.
“I am not sure where I will play next year but hopefully I stay here and play for the under-18s Penrith Rams side,” he said.
“The Rams’ higher grades have been playing well and I speak to some of the boys that left the Swans to make the step up to the Rams.
“It will be a huge thing to do.”
Though still young, McGee has his sights on a professional AFL contract.
“I’m aiming to play professional footy,” he said.
“Hopefully I can get to play for the Sydney Swans but I wouldn’t mind playing in Victoria.
“Mum is originally from Melbourne, so she wouldn’t mind going back there.”
