General
*
Saturday saw Senior Grade enter its 21st
season of competition against the Southern Sharks - equal with Macquarie Uni - and second
only to Nor-West Jets (25 seasons).
* And Reserve
Grade also entered its 21st season of competition
against Nor-West Jets - equal with the Southern Power - and second only to both Macquarie Uni and Manly-Warringah on 22 seasons (until we play the latter club later this season).
Players
* Congratulations to the
following players who made their debut for the club this round:
Under 18s:
Nathan Walker, Hayden Strong, Liam Murphy
* Nathan Walker's debut for the club means another Father/Son combination has played for the club. In addition, it has been discovered that Ben Priest's dad Kevin played for the Rams in 1982. The total F/S combinations to have played for Penrith now totals 14.
* Given that Mick Walker played 268 games for the Rams (second only to Jason Ware), the Walker combination has rocketed to the top of the combined F/S games list, the top eight being:
269 - Michael & Nathan Walker
143 - David, Scott & Peter Robinson
113 - John & Justin Brock
85 - Cliff & David Bradley
75 - John & David Carroll
64 - Mark, Grant & Kyle McDonagh
46 - Allan & Grant Tinker
42 - Michael & James Hartnig
Teams
* Senior
Grade's score of 20.14 (134) and winning margin of 80 points against the Southern Power were both four points short of their best against that club, achieved at Gwawley Park in 2001, which featured almost an identical scoreline - Penrith 21.12 (138) to the then Sharks 8.6 (54) as opposed to this round's 20.14 (134) to 8.6 (54)
* Senior Grade's 20.14 (134) was the club's equal highest score this season across all grades - the Under 18s scored 19.20 (134) in Round 3 against the East Coast Eagles
* Reserve Grade's loss to Nor-West Jets was its seventh in succession against that club (commencing 11th Aug, 2007), equalling the longest ever losing sequence (from 23rd August, 1992 to 9th April, 1994)
* Under 18 Grade's game against Holroyd-Parramatta was its fifth scheduled game against that club, all of which have been at different venues - Dukes Oval, Bensons Lane, Wrights Reserve, Blacktown Olympic Park and finally Greygums Oval.
* Under 18 Grade's win against Holroyd-Parramatta was its fifth win out of five attempts against that club. Their score of 12.17 (89) holds a special place in Penrith's Under 18 Grade history - it was the Rams' final score in the 2001 Under 18 Grand Final win against Manly-Warringah (12.17 to 4.3).
