Penrith Rams are pleased to announce Lachie Smith and Matthew Payne will be sponsored for the 2010 season by major partner, IGA Signature. Under the terms of our partnership agreements, all major sponsors will assist players under the "Player Sponsorship Scheme". Lachie and Matty will be ambassadors both on and off the field for the Rams in what is shaping up to be a good year.
Lachlan Smith was player/coach of the Rams in 2009 and the team improved on previous seasons with five wins under his guidance. A former Blue Mountains resident, Lachie now makes the trek to Greygums from his North Sydney home and is impressed with the early numbers and commitment at the Rams. By his own admission, Smith found last season very challenging having to coach the side from inside the lines as well as a lack of numbers at training which fell dramatically as the season progressed. He takes in the assistant coaching role under Kevin Tate and the former rep player who coined the catchcry "Rams to rise again in twenty ten", will be a key figure in this years tilt at finals glory.
Matthew Payne, a product of the strong Emu Plains/Glenmore Park junior club, has shown great leadership and loyalty to the Western Sydney region over the last ten years. Matt captained the 18's last year in their amazing season and will be looking at playing one more Saturday in 2010. The multi-award winning "hardman" also played with the Swans Reserves last year and was runner up in the Sydney AFL's prestigious "Hart Medal" despite missing several matches through forfeits and Swans commitments.
Both players will be representing the club as the "Faces of IGA", attending corporate functions as well as assisting in our junior development programmes.
