The Under 18s today travelled to Macquarie Uni to take on the side equal with them on the ladder.
The match would give a good indicator of how they were travelling five rounds into the season.
Unfortunately, the side was again jumped in the first quarter and could not recover their position.
The lads now have a vital match coming up this week at home against Manly-Warringah.
Final scores were: Macquarie Uni 16.14 (110) d Penrith 6.9 (45)
Michael Morgan's match report follows:
Last Saturday saw Under 18’s Rams travel to University Oval to take on Macquarie Uni. With both teams equal on the ladder with 12 points apiece this was a chance for the Rams to show the competition what they were made of.
Unfortunately, like the week before against the Southern Power, the boys didn’t come out firing, letting the opposition jump out to a four-goal lead at quarter time.
The second quarter was a better one from the Rams who managed to stay on the man more than they did in the previous quarter but still trailed by 41 points at the main break.
Following a strong talking to in the change rooms the Rams came out playing like they had in the first few games of the year. The second half was much more competitive, resulting in a hard slog which eventually saw young Rams beaten by 65 points.
This loss came down to the simple fact that the boys weren’t staying as close to their opposition player as they should have been resulting in loose Macquarie University players around the ground.
Hamish Mulligan played his best game to date kicking 3 goals and attacking the ball well. Matthew Payne played his first game for the season with a solid performance in the backline.
This weekend sees all three grades return to Greygums Oval to play Manly. The Under 18s kick off at 10am. As of yet we are unbeaten on this ground and hope to turn their last two weeks around for a 4-2 record.
Goalkickers: H. Mulligan 3, C. Jaworski, K. Perkins, K. McDonagh
Best: M. Morgan, D. Lomas, K. McDonagh, M. Payne, C. Jaworski, H. Mulligan
