The Under 18s went within a whisker of disposing of two finalists in a row when they went down to Macquarie Uni by a slender three points at Greygums Oval on Saturday.
In a match where the majority of scoring was done at the one end, the Rams found themselves 23 points down at quarter-time. With the wind advantage in the second term, inaccurate kicking prevented the Rams from getting any closer than two goals at the long break.
Thankfully, Uni also had the same malaise in the third quarter, kicking 1.8 - but nevertheless they still led by a match-winning 26 points going into the final term.
Despite attacking relentlessly, Penrith unfortunately found themselves less than a straight kick short when the final siren blew. Despite this, it was a fine way to end a season which in hindsight could have delivered much more than it did.
Final scores: Macquarie Uni 6.8 (44) d Penrith 5.11 (41)
Goals: B. Cooke 3, B. Robinson, S. Turner
Best: B. Cooke, M. Reinhard, B. Robinson, D. Siljanoski, J. Begley, C. Jaworski
