The Penrith Rams are pleased to announce the appointment of U/18's mentor Kevin Tate as senior coach for the 2010 season. Tate, a former player with the club, took charge of the U/18's in 2008 before leading the boys to a Preliminary Final this year. Reserve Grade will be led by Mark Jackson, with 2009 coach Jason Ware continuing as his assistant. Former Emu Plains U/16's premiership coach and this year's U/18's assistant, Craig Sharp, has been appointed as coach of the U/18's in 2010, and he will be assisted by Geoff Payne, with former First Grade coach Michael Walker also taking up a role with the youngsters.
Penrith Chairman Michael Haynes said that he was extremely pleased that the club had secured it's coaching staff at this point in the cycle. "It's something we haven't been in a position to do for a number of years, so it's definitely a positive" he said. "With the direction we're going in trying to bring through the youngsters from the junior ranks, appointing Kev was the logical step as he's built up a great relationship with the boys over the past two years. We had three or four come through and play in the seniors this season, and we'll probably have double that from our prelim final side come through for next year. If we can combine these guys with the top end talent that we already have at the club, I'm sure we'll be right there amongst it come finals time." Haynes said.
"We're also excited about the continued development of our U/18's program, with the early sounding out that we've done indicating that we'll have some very strong numbers again next year under Sharpy" he continued.
