SA
Cass Hartley
Last Hoorah: Cass Hartley is undoubtedly the most seasoned campaigner in the SA Camp. She is also one of the fittest and enthusiastic players to take the field. Cass will be a danger in the Centre of the ground.
Michelle Reid
Prematch routine pays benefits
Hopefully the CEO of Hungry Jack’s gets to read this because they would be thrilled to learn that star South Australian player, Michelle Reid, plays her best footy when she’s consumed an HJ’s breakfast!
“It will be seen as not the ideal preparation but it works for me,” said a coy Reid.
Reid’s playing career has spanned 6 years which includes representing her state on 2 occasions. “I have also represented SA and Australia in Gaelic football.” However it is AFL that she keeps coming back to boasting a great grandfather that was a premiership player for South Melbourne way back in 1933.
“I also love watching AFL games on TV during my leisure time,” Reid said, so she is never far from football.
Currently playing for the Greenacres WFC Reid would like to help develop the women’s team into a dominant and successful team.
Sarah Maserio
Maserio a maestro
One could get an overuse injury recording the football medals won by South Australia’s Sarah Maserio. She’s collected six premiership medals as a member of the Eagles Women’s Football Club, two Dutschke Medals (SAWFL’s fairest and best) and two Carmel Laube Medals (the SAWFL players’ choice for fairest and best of the league). All that over a 150 plus game career.
“But I’ve only represented my state twice,” Maserio said. “I broke my leg just two weeks before the 2007 champs which would have been my first time as a state player.”
“I am very proud of my comeback as I was able to make state selection the next time in 2009.”
“My aspirations in football are to play well and contribute to winning State football for SA this year.” Given her ability to run hard through the midfield and to challenge herself each game, Maserio should be a great contributor for the Croweaters.
Deni Varnhagen
Next Big Thing: Deni Varnhagen was a surprise selection to some in 2009 when she was still eligible for U18’s and a relatively new player to the game. She now has another two years of senior football in her boots and is still very young State Player.
Courtney Cramey
In her twilight: Another experienced State player Courtney Cramey has found a new lease on life and worked extremely hard over summer to become a faster fitter player. She will surprise a few.
Caitlin Williams
Rising Star: One of SA U18 Youth Girls team, Caitlin Williams run off the half back flank during the Melbourne Carnival last year was extremely valuable. Cat is a young lady who has been playing football since she was in Primary school and has an absolute passion for the game.
Caitlyn Swanson
Another rookie: Caitlyn Swanson’s ability to hit a target even when in a pressure situation will stand her in good stead for this level of football. Her composed onfield nature belies her age and experience in the game. With last year’s U18 Nationals under her belt, she will be an asset to the team.
Lisa Kennedy
Ready to step up is 2009 Championships player Lisa Kennedy. Lisa was a young pup then and did not receive a lot of game time. She has since played two more years of senior football and her fitness, skills and attack on the football have improved remarkably.
