Southern Power AFC is delighted to announce the appointment of Jared Wilson as the Senior Coach of the club for the 2017 AFL Sydney season.
Wilson, a member of the 2013 1st Grade Premiership side, was a key member of the 2016 leadership group and makes his first foray into senior coaching however was an important part of the 2016 coaching group as strength and conditioning coach. Jared has high level playing experience at a number of clubs across NSW as well as a stint in country Victoria and that combined with his time in professional basketball environments make him a great appointment for the club.
A respected leader at the club, Jared’s focus will be on building a hard working, committed group by creating a program which aims to play an aggressive, exciting brand of football.
Wilson is well aware of the challenge he faces to take the side up the Division One ladder to be a genuine finals contender, however believes the strong foundation laid in 2016 for what was a relatively young and inexperienced group will hold the side in good stead.
“I am excited about the opportunity to lead Southern Power AFC in 2017 and look forward to the challenge of developing our list of players throughout the season.” Wilson said.
“As a group we will create a competitive and fun environment which I believe is crucial to push the club towards our ultimate goal – winning Premierships. A by-product of this will hopefully be that we continue to strengthen our great Southern Power community.”
Jared, having worked in the fitness industry for almost 20 years and with an extensive knowledge of the latest training trends and nutrition, really set the tone in 2016 and will look to build on that.
“There is plenty of talent at the club, with a good mix of experience and youth so I am confident we will really be able to compete and make our mark on Sydney AFL throughout all grades.”
With the long awaited move to Waratah Park finally becoming a reality, President Cameron Roe is excited about 2017 and ensuring the Power becomes an attractive option for quality players and local juniors in Sydney’s south.
“Jared has proven a quality individual and leader during his years at Southern Power and we look forward to his progression into the senior coaching ranks,” says Roe.
“2017 shapes as an important year in the club’s history and the appointment of Jared along with finally relocating to a home ground that rivals any other in Sydney provides us with an opportunity to progress as a football club.”
