Carol Breen wins the James Medal (Women’s Division One Best and Fairest)
UTS Shamrocks player Carol Breen has claimed the James Medal as she topped off a successful season at Doltone House on Monday Night.
Carol, who is a senior member of the Shamrocks side at 30 years of age had a brilliant year and finished with 26 votes, 5 votes ahead of Rachael Lewis from the Manly Warringah Giants. Breen played 15 games this season where she polled an outstanding ten times, including an impressive six best on ground performances where she picked up the three votes. She ended the year in a rush of best on ground performances to claim the three votes four times in the last five rounds. 2016 was Carol’s fist year back at the UTS Shamrocks since 2011 back in the SWAFL days. This year she has been a force up forward kicking an impressive 33 goals, finishing 5th in the overall goal kicking for Women’s Division One.
Rachael Lewis from the Manly Warringah Giants finished in second place on 21 votes while Renee Tomkins and Nikki Perrett from the Penrith Ramettes, and Catherine Stanton from the Wollongong Saints finished equal third place on 16 votes.
