AFL Sydney is pleased to announce that the 2016 Round 18 Rising Star is Sam Wicks from the Manly Warringah Giants.
In his first season of Premier League football Sam has settled into the Manly Giants team playing as a high forward and across half back. He has played consistently throughout the year with his best performance to date in Round 17 against Pennant Hills. Sam had 31 touches including 6 marks and 25 kicks in a pivotal role on the half back flank. This performance lead to a NEAFL call up last weekend.
Sam is a member of the Swans Academy and played Rams against NT during the year. At only 16 years old Sam's running and kicking is at an elite level.
Coach Brain was full of praise for the youngster. ”We have blooded a number of younger players this year and they are now settled and comfortable at seniors level. Sam is very coachable and has shown a high level of consistency in his contribution during the year. we are excited by our young talent and Sam is a big part of our future”.
