Division Five Finals Preview – Week 1
In the blink of an eye the 2016 lower grades regular season has come to a close. What a year it has been for the lower grades clubs in their respective campaigns. Now the regular season has come to end, the best teams of our lower grades Clubs will now compete for the flag. It all starts this Sunday at Blacktown International Sports Park as the venue plays host to the Women’s Division One, Division Four and Division Five Elimination and Qualifying Finals.
Division Five
Qualifying Final - Sunday 14th August at 11.05am at BISP Oval 1 – UNSW ES Bulldogs v UTS Bats
With Pennant Hills running away with the minor Premiership by 2 games the UNSW ES Bulldogs and the UTS Bats do battle in the Qualifying final this weekend. UNSW ES have enjoyed a great year of football only having tasted defeat three times. The Bulldogs game is not only strong in offence but also in their defensive line. The Bulldogs attack has been driven by quality forward entry to John Hook who has been the anchor in the dogs attack this year finishing equal third in the goals tally for the competition.
The Bats are a handy side as well and will fancy their chances of getting a finals win on the board. The Bats will be looking to Job Fransen and Troy Ottens to be dominant for the Bats as they have been all year, with Job and Troy being the club favourites for the Bats div 5 B&F. Up forward they will be looking towards Daniel Casarotto to kick a bag against the strong Bulldogs defence.
Expect this game to be a close and intense encounter as the two sides look to bring their best football to the September stage.

Prediction: UNSW ES Bulldogs in a one kick thriller. Bulldogs by 4 points.
Elimination Final – Sunday 14th August at 9:00am at BISP Oval 1 – Nor-West Jets v Sydney University
The Nor-West Jets and the Sydney University Students will be fighting to keep their finals dreams alive this weekend as the two clubs prepare to do battle at Blacktown ISP. The students have been forced to play finals footy for the last month and have been in red hot form. They have won their last six and it is fair to say they are on a roll after defeating the second place UTS, the third place UNSW/ES and the fourth placed Nor-West Jets in that amazing run home. Although they have lost some quality players to injury this year they have been able to find some handy replacements.
The Jets will be quietly confident heading into this weekend’s match as they take on the 5th placed students. It has been a successful year out at Nor-West this season with the Jets show casing some fantastic football along the way. The Jets come into this finals series with three wins in a row after having lost previously to the minor premiers Pennant Hills. Nor-West always seem to sneak under the radar most years and this season is no different. Their strength lies in the power of their attack. Up forward they are a force to be reckoned with. Peter Kyle the Nor-West captain has lead from the front this year as finishing equal third in the league goal kicking table with 35.

Sydney University players to watch: Christian Hammerton, Kyall Homberg, Curtis Judge and Axel Norris
Prediction: Sydney University to make it 7 in a row. Students by 15 points.
