AFL Sydney is pleased to announce the Round 9 Women's Rising Star is Ellie Herron from the Macquarie University Warriors.
Ellie has only played two games of Australian Rules football but has already made her mark on the Women’s Premier Division. Ellie is 18 years old and is currently a student at Macquarie University. Before this season Ellie had never previously played Aussie Rules football, but was convinced to give AFL a try by a friend who already plays for Macquarie Uni. Ellie comes from an athletic background having played touch football and Rugby 7s and she also currently plays soccer.
Ellie has been impressive so far this year playing predominantly in the midfield and back line. She is a fearless competitor who readily takes on the play.
Her team mates love the way she goes about her football and she is already known around the club for her accurate kicking and ability to fend off the opposition. She also has strong marking skills and has the ability to play in attack.
Ellie is also known for being selfless and physically strong, and adds some reliable run out of defence for the Warriors. She is a versatile player who has impressed the opposition as well as her team mates with her natural abilities. We will defiantly look forward to seeing her progress and develop her AFL skills throughout the remainder of the season.
Congrats Ellie!
