The Wollondilly Knights Senior Australian Football Club will be hosting their indigenous round on Saturday 4th June at Hannaford Oval in Wilton. The club has secured sponsorship from local business Hume Building to produce an indigenous guernsey designed specifically for the club by local Aboriginal community member Rebecca Chalker who has 2 daughters who play in the ladies team. The design (pictured) is unique to the local area and the sport of AFL; the 12 blue lines represent the 12 rivers of the Wollondilly, there is a camp to represent the mens team and one for ladies team, the four rings of the campsites represent the AFL goal posts and there are 18 people shown to represent the 18 players on the field. This is a special event in the Knights season calendar and will include a Welcome to Country Ceremony performed by Glenda Chalker, Dharawal elder and Deputy Chair of the Tharawal Local Aboriginal Land Council.
The day will also coincide with the clubs ‘Old-Boys’ reunion where all past players are encouraged to attend and catch up with old team mates and show their support for the current players.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend with the mens team taking the field against Pennant Hills for a top of the table clash at 2pm and the ladies team take on Western Magic at 4pm.
