BLK Sydney AFL Premier Division action this week will see the fourth and fifth place teams do battle when the UTS Bats and Pennant Hills play each other at Mike Kenny Oval. Both teams have been impressive so far this year however some key losses to the top three sides have cost them a top three position. UTS will be boosted by the inclusion on Daniel Breese after the power forward missed that last UTS clash before the bye. He will be looking to kick a bag of goals to re-establish himself as the league’s top goal scorer as Andrew Mcconnell drew level last round with both having 21 goals to their name so far this year. Pennant Hills will be looking to get back on the winner list after having the last two weekend off with 2 bye weekends in a row for the Demons. They will be hoping that their well-rested midfield complement are able to fire on their own deck. Tim Wales has been in excellent form so far this year with a team of the week appearance on the wing last time the Demons played and Aaron Crisfield has been dominant all season out of the back pocket.
The North Shore Bombers and Sydney University are gearing up for a big match at Mortgage choice Oval on Saturday afternoon. The Sydney University side enter Round 8 with only 1 win for the season and will be desperate to take down a high flying opposition in the form of the Bombers. Uni will be greatly strengthened with the inclusion of NEAFL listed Lloyd Perris for his first game of football since he did his ACL in training late last year. Perris will be hoping for a strong year of football after being out of the game for 2 years with reoccurring ACL injuries. From the team at Sydney AFL we wish Lloyd Perris luck with his return to football. North Shore will be looking to put their mark on the competition. Chris Murphy has been in great form for the Bombers in the backline and will be looking to control dominant students forward Tom Elkington.
East Coast Eagles will be out again to show their strength as they travel to play UNSW/ES at Village Green Oval. The Eagles again look the real deal this year as they come off the all club bye round as the face the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs, who got off the last in Round 7 against Sydney Uni, will have to stop the dominant Eagles stars as they host arguably the best team in Sydney Football. Andrew Mcconnell will be out to continue his recent goal kicking run of late after piling on 6 goals in his last match against Western Suburbs. The UNSW Eastern Suburb side fresh off their first win of the season will be looking towards Jeremy Daniher and Matt Round to produce out of the middle. The pair have both been impressive of late and have shown that they can mix it with the elite midfielders in the competition. The Bulldogs will be hoping to bring their A-game this weekend.
The Western Suburbs Magpies will be hoping a home ground advantage will give them the edge as they take on the Manly Warringah Giants. Manly have had mixed fortunes this year playing going into this round with a 50 percent winning ratio. Manly currently sit just outside the f9inals race on percentage only as they take on Western Suburbs. West Suburbs will looking for Tim Woods to provide an anchor in the midfield as they look to get their first runs on the board for the year.
