BLK Sydney AFL Premier Division Action this week will see high flyers UTS Bats and St George do battle at Trumper Park. The UTS Bats have been in sensational form so far this year with only one loss to their name. Their only loss of the season has been to fellow high flyers, the East Coast Eagles, who currently sit in second place on percentage. They will be taking on the 1st place team in St George who look very impressive in the opening Rounds. They will be relying on the big bodied midfielder Karl Merson to help win the ball in the middle. Merson has been impressing this year and is defiantly one of the early favourites for the Phelan Medal based on his current form.
At Sydney University Oval 1, the Sydney Uni students will be looking to return to the winners list as they take on the struggling UNSW/ES Bulldogs. The students have a big day planned with the unfurling of the two 2015 Premiership Flags (Division 1 and Division 3). The unfurling of the premiership flags coincides with SUANFC’s annual Ladies Day. Festivities including local artisan markets, a champagne & oyster bar, live entertainment and a huge after party, are set to make Saturday one of the biggest days on the AFL Sydney’s calendar.
There are some big rivalries in Sydney AFL but arguably one of the fiercest will occur this weekend as Manly Warringah host the North Shore Bombers. The rivalry of the North is always an interesting battle and with Manly hitting form the last two weeks getting two wins in a row this could be big match for both sides. North shore have been flying high this year and are currently sitting in third place. The boys from North Shore are a quiet Premiership fancy and will be hoping to fly under the radar until much later in the season.
East Coast Eagles will be out to show their strength as they host the Western Suburbs Magpies at Kanebridge Oval. East Coast who currently sit in second place have again been dominant so far this year. The last two weeks they have been victorious over previously undefeated teams with wins over St George and the UTS Bats. Andrew Browning has been in brilliant for the Eagles with two Best on Ground performances the last two weeks. His tap work and around the ground pressure have been standouts of his game so far this year and he will defiantly be one to watch this year. Ben Zoppo will also be one to watch at Kanebridge. The young 18 year old Wests full foward has been in great touch in front of goals. Could hecause an upset and help the Wests over the line?
