Round 4 Preview – ANZAC Day Weekend
ANZAC Day long weekend is here as we celebrate the services of all servicemen and women. Grounds across the league will stop to remember the fallen. This year ANZAC Day footy will bounce off as the West Suburbs Magpies and Pennant Hills Demons face off on one of Sydney AFL’s biggest Days. The ANZAC Day ceremony starts at 12.40 pm and is run by Western Suburb’s main sponsor the Canterbury-Hurlstone Park RSL Club. Following the ceremony the City of Canterbury Mayor Brian Robson will toss the coin for the Premier Division captains. The ANZAC Day clash at Picken Oval, Croydon Park, has grown into a huge event with the winner on the day awarded the ANZAC Day Cup.
UNSW/ES are looking to turn their recent form around as they face the formidable ladder leaders St George at Village Green Oval 2.30pm Saturday. St George have been in fine form and have stamped their mark on the competition with some classy wins so far this season. It will be interesting to see if UNSW/ES can contain St. George gun Karl Merson after back to back appearances in the AFL Sydney Team of the week in the last two rounds.
UTS Bats will face their biggest challenge of the season so far when they face the red hot North Shore Bombers at Trumper Park 2.10pm Saturday. UTS will need to contain the North Shore young guns like Round 3 Rising Star Jack Patten in order to really take it up to the Bombers.
East Coast Eagles and Manly will do battle in our only Sunday afternoon Premier Division action at Kanebridge Oval 2pm. The East Coast Eagles have again shown the competition that they are up to challenge of bouncing back from last year’s heart breaking Grand Final Loss. With that said Manly are a competitive outfit and are every chance of upsetting the Eagles. This will be an intriguing game to watch.
