1. Matt Vicic Returns with a bang
Sydney Uni opened their campaign for 2016 with an impressive win over Wests at Henson which highlighted their impressive forward depth with forward Matt Vicic and Tom Elkington kicking 3 majors a piece. Matt took a year away from football in 2015 but has made an immediate impact on his return for the students. Last year Sydney Uni was heavily reliant on big man Tom Elkington, even more so when they lost Will Stratford to injury mid-way through the year. Will this partnership be the makings of a Premiership Forward line?
2. A breakout game for Zoppo?
Ben Zoppo put on a clinic against Sydney Uni scoring a bag of 5 goals; but what is more surprising is he averaged less than a goal a game in his previous 3 Premier Division starts. Zoppo kept Wests in the game being their only multiple goal scorer and was rewarded by earning a spot in his teams bests for the first time in his Premier Division Career. At 19 years of age he could be the next big thing to strike the competition.
3. East Coast Eagles hungry for redemption
After lasts years disappointment on Grand Final day; the Eagles took a step to putting that behind them when they faced the Premiers Pennant Hills on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles cruised to a comfortable victory in what is their 2016 campaign of redemption. It’s a great start but time will tell if this 2016 Eagles squad has what it takes to claim the flag.
4. Experienced Pennant Hills Defender Aaron Crisfield can apply score board pressure
Pennant Hills Defender Crisfield was a standout for his team in the tough loss to East Coast on the weekend even slotting a goal. Crisfield has been a staple for Pennant Hills for many years, and this weekend taught us to never forget he can play attacking footy by slotting his 35th Premier Division goal in his 130th game. Forwards beware; his 2 way running game has been strong the last two years. Let him roam at your peril.
