Southern Power is deeply saddened this week to learn of the passing of a former premiership player, and much loved friend, Tony “Rock” Rokov.
On Saturday the 21st of November, Tony tragically died in a freak sky-diving accident. Tony had been a sky-diving instructor for a number of years, and had completed more than 5,000 jumps in total.
During the fatal jump, Tony’s parachute became twisted 20 metres from the ground, causing Tony and the teenage boy strapped to him to drop to the ground. In his last moments Tony heroically positioned himself to protect the teenager from the worst of the impact. Devastatingly for everyone who knew and loved him, Tony did not survive the impact. The teenager was rushed to hospital and is now believed to be in a serious, but stable, condition.
Amongst many other life achievements, Tony was a key member of Southern Power’s 2011 division 5 premiership side. Tony was described in the following way by Ryan Libbis, the coach of that 2011 side: “Tony was the ultimate team player who was both hard at the contest and extremely courageous. He was a natural leader who led by his actions and would do anything for his teammates. You always grew a couple of inches when Rock was playing alongside you. He was an integral part of the unbeaten thirds team of 2011 and one of the best players on the ground grand final day.”
Tony is survived by his beautiful wife Sam, and three gorgeous children Tori, Mikala and Jensen. Tony was also the proud grandfather of Liberty.
Rest in peace, Rock. You will also have a place in our hearts.

There will be a memorial service held for Tony at 10am next Tuesday 1 December 2015 at St Aloysius Church, Cronulla, with a wake to follow at Cronulla RSL.
