Its the final round of the Lower Division competitions and there are still a few finals positions up for grabs so in this segment, Road to September Glory, we look at those matches and how the results will effect the competition.
Division Two
Touted as the hottest of premiership favourites at the start of the season, its hard to believe that the Penrith Rams are now a 50/50 chance of missing finals completely! They do have their destiny in their own hands though with the simple equation, win in the final round and 5th spot is theirs. Easier said than done though, as they have the difficult task of facing runaway competition leaders Camden who have only lost the one game all season!
In the Ram’s favour is that the game is at Greygums Oval and the likelihood of an under strength Camden side travelling with top spot already locked away and a good chance to rest some battered bodies.
If the Rams do lose, they need to rely on North Shore losing their final round match.
If the Rams win then they take their position in finals and will be a danger side for teams above.
If however they lose, North Shore have the opportunity to steal the final position. North Shore have finished the season well and should fancy their chances against bottom side Randwick City on Saturday afternoon. Lose though and its Silly Sunday celebrations for the Bombers as their percentage is far less than Penrith’s who they currently sit on equal points with.
Prediction:
North Shore should account for Randwick City at Gore Hill at midday so all eyes will be on the Penrith v Camden clash from 2:10pm where we predict Camden will finish their season in style meaning a shock exit for the Rams and a return to finals action for North Shore.
Division Three
The five finals positions have been confirmed already with Western Suburbs enjoying a strong end to the season to claim the final position. UTS finished top and will get the first week off and are the team to beat however go into finals on the back of a couple of losses in the past month.
Division Four
The final positions for Division Four are wide open and there are a multitude of possibilities. The short story though is that if Camden can beat Manly-Warringah and Sydney University knock off 8th placed North Shore both will confirm their finals positions and bundle Campbelltown and Manly-Warringah out.
