Western Suburbs can call themselves premiers in Under 19s Division Two after defeating Moorebank by 24 points at Blacktown today.
Western Suburbs came back after trailing at half time to run out winners 10.11 to 7.5.
The game didn't start well for Western Suburbs with captain Ben Polley going down with a knee injury in the second minute of the game, however West’s didn't let the injury distract them dominating the first quarter kicking 4 goals to 1 and take a 22 point lead into the first break.
Moorebank needed to start the second quarter better but it didn’t happen with West’s kicking the first goal of the quarter to stretch the lead out to 28 points. Moorebank then lifted, starting to win more of the ball and kicking the next five goals to take a shock lead into the sheds at half time.
Within two minutes into the third quarter, West’s had regained the lead however through a goal to Aaron Connelly. West’s then put Moorebank under more pressure kicking two more goals for the quarter to take a 17 point lead into the last change.
West’s kicked the first two goals of the last quarter to extend the margin to 31 points and despite Moorebank kicking the last goal of the game, West’s ran out comfortable winner, not before Dominic Kannan put his name forward for Mark of the Year with a nice grab late in the game.
Thomas Kannan was superb across the half back line for Wests and was awarded the Best on Ground medal. Forward Daniel Tilio and midfielder Vasili Romanas were also excellent for Western Suburbs. For Moorebank, Brock Westwood, James Bowman and Ryan Payne battled hard all day.
