Half Forward Flank - Stephen Wray (Pennant Hills) - Wray is making his first appearance in the AFL Sydney Team of the Year. In 2014, Wray represented Sydney Swans reserves on three occasions and was a member of the AFL Sydney Representative side. Having spent his career in defence, Wray was moved forward in 2014 with great success where he was very prominent up forward finishing second in the league goal kicking finishing with 45 goals from 19 games. Kicked bags of six goals on two occasions in round 3 and 7.
Centre Half Forward - Taylor Williamson (Western Suburbs) - Williamson is another who is making his first appearance in the Team of the Year. His first year in the Sydney comp after previously playing for Clarence in the TSL (Tasmanian State League), Williamson showed great leadership and was rewarded by being named the captain of the AFL Sydney Representative team. He kicked 42 goals from 19 games with a best haul of six goals. Was also named in the AFL Sydney 20-1 countdown in 2014.
Half Forward Flank - Tyrone Armitage (Manly Warringah) - The 2013 Phelan Medallist has been selected in his second straight Team of the Year. After his incredible 2013, it was going to be tough to match those sort of heights in 2014, however, Armitage has been superb once again. Was voted the number 1 player in AFL Sydney 20-1 countdown and was also a contestant of the AFL TV show, 'The Recruit'. Averaged two goals a game from his 16 games and was a member of the AFL Sydney representative side where he was vice captain. Will be one of the favourites for the Phelan Medal in 2014.
Forward Pocket - Ranga Ediriwickrama (Pennant Hills) - This is Ediriwickrama's first selection in the Team of the Year which might come as a surprise to some people. The former Geelong rookie has played 18 games so far in 2014 kicking 22 goals with a best haul of five goals in round 17 against Sydney University. His clean hands on ground level are one of his trademarks and will be crucial for Pennant Hills charge towards the premiership.
Full Forward - Brayden Fowler (Manly Warringah) - Fowler is making his first appearance in the Team of the Year. After playing for Casey Scorpions in the VFL in 2013, it hasn’t taken Fowler long to assert himself as the most dominant forward in the competition. Kicked 81 goals from 18 games to win the Stan Milton trophy for the Leading goalkicker in Premier Division. Was a member of the Representative side starring in the match with eight goals. In the 20-1 countdown, Fowler was named the third best player in the competition.
Forward Pocket - Evan Smith (Sydney University) - Smith is another player receiving his first Team of the Year nomination. The strong marking forward has impressed many in his first season in AFL Sydney. Smith kicked 42 goals from 15 matches at just under three goals a game.! After representing the AFL Riverina against the AFL Sydney Under 23s in 2013, Smith represented the AFL Under 23s in 2014 in their match against the Black Diamond AFL impressing in the match kicking two goals. Smith’s journey is even more impressive considering he has only been playing the game for 3 years
