Sydney University can once again call themselves Premiers in Division Two after defeating Blacktown by 39 points at Blacktown ISP yesterday.
A strong second half where the Students kicked nine goals to three was the catalyst for their 11.19 to 7.4 victory.
The game started very physically with both sides wanting to asert themselves on the contest. Inaccurate kicking in the first quarter hurt the Students of opening up a big first quarter lead however they would take a 7 point lead into the quarter time huddle.
Blacktown looked more relaxed in the second term with the Magic's better players getting their hands on the ball and helping the Magic hit the lead. Sydney University still looked shaky in front of the big sticks kicking 1.3 for the quarter while the Magic's accuracy helped them take a 3 point lead into the main change.
The third quarter saw the Students come out firing, hitting the packs harder and pushing for more goals on the board. They did exactly that kicking 5 goals, 3 of which in the final minites of the quarter to regain the lead and pushing the margin out to 20 points at three quarter time.
The Magic needed something special in the last quarter but it didn’t come as the Students kicked another four goals to two in the last quarter to claim back to back premierships.
Peter Casey was outstanding up forward kicking three goals and being awarded the best on ground medal. He received good support from Nicholas Lye, Daniel Potts and Tim Air. For the Magic, Jared Van Veen was the best for them with Mark Burger and Brad Whale trying to will their side over the line.
