Back Pocket - Olivia Warren (Sydney University) - This is Warren's first selection in the Team of the Year. Olivia has played 10 games in season 2014 and has been impressive in every one. She was rarely beaten in one on one contests and provided good rebound from the defensive fifty. Her best game was in Round 4 was she was named best afield by the coaches in their clash against Newtown.
Full Back - Sasha Banki (UNSW/ES) - Banki is also making her first appearance in the Team of the Year and what a year she has had. She has been rock solid in defence and her defensive pressure is one of the reasons why the Stingrays have made the grand final. Banki was selected in the AFL Sydney Representative side who played a two game series against Canberra.
Back Pocket - Kathryn Hull (Southern Power) - This is Hull's second appearance in the Team of the Year after also being selected in 2012. The Southern Power captain has had a fanastic year, leading the Power to an undefeated season and claiming the Women's Division Two premiership (and the Best on Ground medal to top it off). Of the 15 games Hull played in 2014, she was named in the best an astonishing 14 times, highlighting how important she is two them. Hull was also a member of the Representative Team and was named best on ground in the sides win in Canberra.
Half Back Flank - Melita Morriss (UNSW/ES) - This is Melita's second straight season in the Team of the Year. After an impressive 2013 campaign, Morriss went to the next level showing all her class in 2014.She was named in the best 9 times out of the 13 games she played with her best performance coming in Round 9 against the Western Wolves. Another member of the AFL Sydney Representative squad. She will be very important for the Stingrays in the Grand Final this weekend.
Centre Half Back - Rachel Stack (Sydney Uni) - Stack is also making her second straight appearance in the Team of the Year once again showing she is the best Centre Half Back in the competition. Stack was a member of the AFL Sydney Representative side playing in the win down in Canberra. She was named in the best 8 times from the 14 games she played with her best performance coming in Round 8 against the Breakaways.
Half Back Flank - Sandra Janjetovic (UNSW/ES) - Janjetovic is making her first showing in the Team of the Year and there is no doubting her inclusion. One of the most skilful players in the competition with her raking left foot, Janjetovic was a key member of the Representative side for both games being named in the best in game two. She was strong in defence in all 14 games she played in 2014 and will be very important to the Stingrays premiership chances this weekend.
