Vale - Barbara 'Babs' McSweeney

It is with deep sadness that we inform of the passing of Barbara 'Babs' McSweeney wife of NSWAFUA Life and Hall of Fame Member Jim McSweeney. Babs had been suffering from illness for some time and Jim had been by her side every step of the way.

Both Barbara and Jim have provided years of support to umpiring in Sydney. So much so the NSWAFUA decided to instigate an award in 2011 named the　Barbara McSweeney Outstanding Support of Umpiring.　In fact Jim refers to the umpiring group as his second family.

Over the weekend all umpires will wear black armbands in all AFL Sydney matches as a mark of respect.
