Western Suburbs
Currently: 1st
The Run Home: North Shore (H), Manly-Warringah (A), UNSW/ES (A)
Analysis: Will be looking to rebound after a disappointing showing at home losing to second-placed Sydney University. Should win all their remaining games but face a dangerous trip to Manly-Warringah who should be getting a number of troops back with their top two grades in finals action.
Prediction: The loss to Sydney University may come back to bite them. Will finish second on percentage and have to play week one of the finals.
Sydney University
Currently: 2nd
The Run Home: North Shore (A- catch up round), Manly-Warringah (H), UTS (H), Moorebank (A)
Analysis: Back in contention for top spot after the win against Western Suburbs- they look like they are coming good at the right end of the year once again. Always competitive in their middle-tier grades, they should gain handy percentage boosting wins against North Shore and UTS. Again Manly-Warringah should pose a test, while Moorebank may have one eye on their end-of-season trip in the final round.
Prediction: Need to make up 9% in For and Against on Western Suburbs but with 4 wins predicted, they can take their banana lounges out to Gipps Road for Week 1 of the Finals.
Camden
Currently: 3rd
The Run Home: Blacktown (A), Moorebank (A), Manly-Warringah (A)
Analysis: Camden have enjoyed a better regular season this year and loom ominously. They face a tough run home with all of their matches away- two of which are against sides who want their double chance, the other against Moorebank who may still have an outside chance of making the finals. If they come through unscathed, they could go all the way.
Prediction: Racking up the miles will take its toll on the Cats. Will be fighting for survival in the opening week of finals. Fourth.
Manly-Warringah
Currently: 4th
The Run Home: Sydney University (A), Western Suburbs (H), Camden (H)
Analysis: The GIANTS are somewhat of an enigma in Division Two. They led the competition after seven rounds but now face a test to seal a spot in the finals. Should benefit from their Premier Division’s lofty standing again this season with the luxury of potentially qualifying players for both grades. They undoubtedly have the toughest run home where they will play the top three sides. If there is any silver lining, two of those games are at home.
Prediction: The GIANTS are capable of anything but need a Houdini act if they are to seal a double chance. Fifth.
Blacktown
Currently: 5th
The Run Home: Camden (H), Sydney Hills Eagles (A), North Shore (A)
Analysis: After dominating Division Three for the past couple of years, they have made a good fist out of their first year in this grade. They sit only one game behind third-placed Camden and have battled manfully with a decent injury toll this season. They have a nice run home with their biggest test against Camden in a game that could decide the final double-chance ticket.
Prediction: Tipping them to be the biggest beneficiaries of the run home. They should finish third.
Moorebank
Currently: 6th
The Run Home: UTS (A), Camden (H), Sydney University (H)
Analysis: Again this year they see themselves on the cusp of finals. This time they sit on the wrong side of the ledger, two games outside of fifth. They need some luck with Manly or Blacktown to have a bad run home. It will be tough to see them winning against Camden or Sydney University- but they will be better off playing at home.
Prediction: Despite their decent percentage, they won’t improve on their sixth place standing.
Below teams are out of finals contention
North Shore
Currently: 7th
The Run Home: Sydney University (H- catch up round), Western Suburbs (A), UNSW/ES (A), Blacktown (H)
Prediction: Will struggle to beat three top-five opponents, but should beat UNSW/ES. Will remain in seventh.
UTS
Currently: 8th
The Run Home: Moorebank (H), Sydney University (A), Sydney Hills Eagles (H)
Prediction: Will hold onto eighth courtesy of a final round win against ninth-placed Sydney Hills.
Sydney Hills Eagles
Currently: 9th
The Run Home: UNSW/ES (H), Blacktown (H), UTS (A)
Prediction: They will fancy their chances in winning against UNSW/ES and UTS, but only likely to win one of those. Ninth.
UNSW/ES
Currently: 10th
The Run Home: Sydney Hills Eagles (A), North Shore (H), Western Suburbs (H)
Prediction: Demotion beckons if they can’t register a massive win against Sydney Hills.
