Analysis:
It is amazing to see the progression of Armitage through the ranks of the AFL Sydney competition. The reigning Phelan Medal has just about won it all and has remained loyal throughout to his beloved Manly-Warringah club despite no doubt receiving big offers to play at a loftier level.
The club captain has been a star for the Giants for a number of years as a Division One player but took his game to a new level in Premier Division in 2013.
As Captain in 2012, Ty led the Division One side to an undefeated premiership (whilst finishing runner up B&F and Top 10 in the Snow Medal).
Ty, who was Manly's young gun has become a young veteran with experience in Sydney Representative Footy, Swans Reserves in 2009 and trained with Geelong in early 2010.
Ty is a local player hailing from the Forest Lions Junior Club. Tyrone has a number of awards across his budding career in Sydney, winning Manly-Warringah’s Under 18's Best & Fairest, Competition B&F and Competition leading goal kicker in 2007, the first grade B&F and Snow Medal in 2009 and runner up B&F in 2012.
Ty has taken his game to another level in 2014 and must be close to, if not THE hardest worker in the competition. His most recent outing saw him kick 4 goals in a best on ground performance for the Giants in their big win last weekend.
Tyrone was a member of the Sydney Representative team in 2014 where he was named vice captain showing his leadership qualities and impressively was one of only a few players nationally to feature on the new FOX8 show, The Recruit (which coincidently aired on Wednesday night where he made the final 12).
Almost most impressive is his ability to hit the scoreboard. Despite lacking in size to play a key position post, his speed, agility and superior foot skills has seen him kick over 200 goals in first grade for his club...and he is only 24 (scary stuff)!
Ty has real x-factor about him with his ability to break a game open with just a few touches of the football which is why he is always closely guarded. It is for the reasons listed above that Tyrone has recruiters eyes on him and the dream of gaining a place on an AFL list is well within reach.
Tyrone will no doubt go down as one of the best players ever to represent his club and also AFL Sydney.
