4 - Selby Lee-Steere
Club: North Shore
Previous: East Fremantle WAFL (2007-11), Balmain (2012-13), NSW Country (2012)
Age: 25
Position: Ruck
Analysis:
Quality big men don’t grow on trees, just look at the AFL competition. Given Lee-Steere’s versatility this makes him one of the most, if not THE most valuable player in the AFL Sydney competition.
A natural ruckman with East Fremantle where he played under Brownlow Medalist, Shane Woewodin, he played 25 senior games before crossing to Balmain a couple of years ago.
Whilst at Balmain he filled a number of positions including the ruck in rotation with Kris Ericson as well as centre half-back, centre half-forward and even in the midfield during their struggles in 2013.
2013 saw him captain Balmain and during his years at the Dockers, Lee-Steere was one of the first players picked in the AFL Sydney Senior representative team and was also a member of the NSW team in the 2012 Country Championships in Wagga.
It would be easy to bemoan Lee-Steere in the last couple of years but you must remember he has played with two sides struggling in terms of ladder position.
Early 2014 saw North Shore gain the prize signing of the leagues best big man where he has lived up to his potential and must be the shortest of prices to take out their club Best & Fairest.
He did lift Balmain to a Grand Final in 2012 and has kicked over 100 goals in 170 games in senior age football. Great statistics when you consider his natural position in the middle.
He has been North Shore’s best player this year in what has been a very tough year for the club and is by far and away the most versatile player in the competition at the moment.
