13 - Karl Merson
Club: St George
Previous: Subiaco and Baulkham Hills Junior, Sydney Hills Eagles (2011-12), Perth (WAFL Colts) (2013)
Age: 19
Position: Midfield
Analysis:
Dividing most of his junior years between WA and Sydney, Merson has continually grown both physically and in his ability to make an impression against high-quality opposition.
He had NEAFL experience with the Hills Eagles and UWS GIANTS before playing a full season of Colts for Perth.
A big name recruit that fit it beautifully with the youth mould at St George, Merson has made an immediate impression with his contested ball-winning ability and has also gone forward to kick twelve goals in eleven games. He has been in St George’s best in nine of those eleven games which is testament to his consistency.
Also a big tick for the 19-year old is his leadership skills where he was named as a vice-captain in the AFL Sydney Representative side this year.
Given his age, he will only get better given he is yet to play 30 senior grade games.
