19 -Sam Carruthers
Club: North Shore
Previous Clubs: St Ignatius (2007)
Age: 24
Position: Midfield
Analysis:
Diminutive in size but not in heart, Carruthers is one of the best inside midfielders in AFL Sydney and has more than once carried North Shore on his shoulders through some important periods. He was within one game of claiming a Phelan Medal, if not for Tyrone Armitage claiming three votes in the North Shore v Manly-Warringah clash in the final round. In the prime of his career, Carruthers is a good ball user by hand and foot and has strong leadership skills. Also last year, he featured in the Senior representative squad and the Team of the Year, and kicked eight goals in eighteen club games. It will be hard to top 2013 but Carruthers has plenty of years left to leave an indelible mark on the local competition.
