The UTS Bats Football Club is thrilled to announce the appointment of Alan Kymantas as Premier Division Coach for 2014.
After an extensive interview and selection process, Kymantas was the standout candidate.
Having been a Bats A grade captain for four years, the committee is confident the 33 year old will bring the same level of commitment, professionalism and expertise to his coaching.
Having joined the club from Grovedale in the Geelong Football League, Kymantas had a decorated 119 game career at the Bats, including three Premierships (two as captain), in 2009 was announced as Bats team of the decade captain, was the 2010 Best and Fairest winner and is regarded as one of the greatest on-field leaders of the Bats short but rich history.
Kymantas retired at the end of 2012 and was a Premier Division assistant coach under Daniel Lynch in 2013.
Bats President Nick Haslam says Kymantas is the perfect fit for the position.
"We are extremely excited to have Alan step into the senior coaching role," said Haslam.
"His football knowledge is exceptional, but more importantly, he understands the Bats’ values and what it takes to achieve success at this football club.
"This appointment is an exciting step for our club as we look to move forward on the field and be one of the most successful clubs in the Sydney AFL competition, particularly in the Premier Division," he said.
Kymantas says he’s thrilled to step into the role.
"The Bats is a club very close to my heart and I’m honoured to take over the role as senior coach.
"I’ve been lucky enough to play in some successful Bats teams over the years and I’m looking forward to the challenge of taking this club into the finals of the Premier Division competition for the first time," said Kymantas.
"We’re gathering a very strong playing group for the 2014 season and I’m confident we are putting together the foundations for an exciting year for the Bats, both on and off the field."
With the senior coaching position now confirmed, Kymantas will now work closely with Head of Football Operations Simon Rabbit to finalise the coaching structure across the five grades at the Bats.
